  9.  AB    This paper summarizes the results of routine surveillance and sentinel
  10.        surveillance of HIV in Yunnan province from 1989 to 1992. From routine
  11.        surveillance in 1992 HIV infection prevalence rates for intravenous drug
  12.        abusers (IDUs) were 81%(130/160) in Ruili city, 43%(119/277) in
  13.        Longchuan county, 17%(30/172) in Yingjiang county, 4%(6/161) in Luxi
  14.        county and 0% (0/1253) in Kunming city respectively. The HIV infection
  15.        rate among IVDUs rose between 1990 and 1992 in Ruili city by 13%, and in
  16.        Longchuan county by 8.2%, but the rate in Luxi did not change In Simao,
  17.        the HIV positivity rate was 4%(2/55) in prostitutes. In Xishuangbanna,
  18.        one HIV positive was also found among eleven clients of prostitutes.
  19.        According to sentinel surveillance, the 1991 & 1992 prevalence are
  20.        compared the anonymous unlinked sentinel site in Ruili City hospital the
  21.        rate rose from 0.2% (4/2388) to 0.5 (9/1776).
